amosunThe National Conscience Party (NCP) gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State in the 2003 and 2011 election, Lanre Banjo, has said the former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu, is in support of the Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun Banjo, who said he was in the United States recently where he had discussions with Tinubu, making clear to him that his interest is the stability and progress of Ogun State and that the government of Amosun was not negotiable.

In a statement titled: 'Tinubu Backs Amosun "Banjo said he was surprised that an online  medium would published a story titled: ‘Tinubu, Osoba Dump Governor Amosun’ without proper verification. The statement read: “My attention has been drawn to an article titled 'Tinubu, Osoba, Dump Governor Amosun' published by an online news site. I am surprised that the site would run such an unfounded story, without proper verification. "However, it is incumbent upon me as a prominent citizen of Ogun State who is vigilant and familiar with online news to respond to this type of miss-information as they surface.

“I was with Tinubu for two days in Maryland, USA, where he is recuperating very well from his recent knee surgery. We spoke extensively about national politics, in general, and Ogun State under the leadership of Amosun, specifically. He made it clear to me that his interest is the stability and progress of Ogun State and that the government of Amosun signposted that progress. “The understanding I got is that the former Lagos State governor, will not be part of any conspiracy to destroy what has been achieved politically in Ogun State. Going by my discussions with him a few days ago and from what I heard from him, I know where he stands on this matter. There is no contest. The governor is working for the people and the state is progressing. To insinuate that Tinubu has dumped Amosun is unfounded and stretching it too far.

"From our discussion, I can authoritatively state that Tinubu  rates the performance of the governor high. Consequently, he will not be an accessory to unjustifiably deny a performing governor a ticket for the second term. "The website further reported that 'Tinubu bought the suggestion to dump Amosu and therefore mitigate the party’s losses in the Southwest, after the recently concluded local government elections in Ogun State, adjudged, as a sham election by observers.”  It is corrosively ridiculous to report that Tinubu bought a suggestion that he was never in the market for."

“While I can’t speak for Aremo Osoba or anyone for that matter, but going by my discussions with Tinubu a few days ago and from what I heard from him, I know where he stands on this matter. I also know that Osoba has the interest of the people of Ogun at heart and will not do anything to truncate the current progress being made.
